Designing beautiful handmade floral crowns

It’s certainly been a bucking trend over the past 2 years to have gorgeous fresh floral crowns for either the bride and/or bridesmaids. We caught up with the team over at Fresh Flowers to get them to give us the low-down on how to achieve this look on a budget! If you are planning your wedding, you might have noticed that one of the upcoming trends is floral crowns. These are so beautiful and natural, they add a touch of elegance and uniqueness to your wedding. Once you have selected your wedding dress and bridesmaids outfits, it is a good idea to give some thought to floral crowns. You can order these along with your bouquets, men’s boutonnieres, chapel flowers… Read More →

Marriage Waters

Marriage Waters Something Borrowed

Have you ever thought about getting married on a boat, out on the open waters? Sailing has a way of getting under your skin unlike any other sport, and at such short notice! The technical difficulties of owning or operating a boat never stopped parents or pet owners, so why not incorporate it into other high-maintenance events. Like a boat wedding, perhaps? Choosing a boat as your wedding venue brings some charm to your special day that you could not find anywhere else, except perhaps in a cave wedding, or a forest wedding. It all depends on your aesthetic preferences, and each is lovelier than the other. Still, a day in the sun and salty air, waves caressing the wedding… Read More →

Tuesday treat in the inbox!

Trumpet and Horn

Since signing up to Trumpet and Horn, Tuesday mornings (or Wednesday with the timezone difference!) are always such a treat now! Each Tuesday, Trumpet and Horn release new vintage rings onto their website for our viewing pleasure. This morning, I found a dream ring! Amongst this morning’s rings, the St Albins totally caught my eye. It’s a beautiful piece of jewelery! “St. Albins is a vintage late Art Deco era engagement ring made from platinum centering a 0.94cts EGL certified Old European Cut diamond graded J color and SI1 clarity. This simple engagement ring design showcases the beautifully cut diamond set high in a six-prong setting.  The unique basket design features a hexagonal border underneath the center stone creating a… Read More →

Designer Spotlight: Elvi Design

Elvi Design Something Borrowed Designer Spotlight Feature

I’m very lucky to have gone to school with some seriously talented women. Recently I’ve been obsessing over the absolutely beautiful bridal collections being created by my former classmate Sandra Banken who launched her brand, Elvi Design, with her mother Birgitta in 2011. I’ve been wanting to write about Elvi Design for so long, I’ve never seen anything like the pieces Sandra and Birgitta have been producing and I’m so excited to share them with you! The Perth-based label has become increasingly well known for their vintage-inspired couture gowns – each individually designed and tailored to ensure every bride looks mind blowing on her wedding day. Bespoke weddings (which I am LOVING) have become increasingly popular over the past couple… Read More →

Wedding idea: Tram Scroll

Lauren Larsen Photography

When I saw this image from Lauren Larsen, I was instantly drawn to the couple and their moment. The placement and use of a tram scroll to capture their relationship journey was beautiful and visually engaging, plus the perfect memorabilia to include in their home! I love the use of this for their wedding day and wedding photographs, have any of you done this for your own wedding?

Designer Spotlight: Lisa Ho

Lisa Ho

I love getting Lisa Ho emails, there’s always something in them that I want to buy! Last week was no exception: the Bridal Boutique edition! Featured within were Lisa Ho’s latest collection of Bridal wear, and got bit a little bit excited! My favourite one was the peplum style silk taffeta strapless gown, it’s very on trend for this season and reasonably priced at $1,999! This simply beautifully crafted silk tulle bodice and low neckline creates an elegant and classic gown. This more elaborate gown is also among my favourites, with it’s intricate hand sewn sequins and delicately frayed georgette to finish off this stunning gown. Check out Lisa Ho’s website for more info.

Collette Dinnigan Armadale store opening

I am so pumped to introduce Kate Piasecka to you! A beautiful friend of mine, who also happens to be one of the most talented writers I know! Stay tuned for her book kids, it’ll be worth it! Kate went to the Collette Dinnigan opening in Armadale this week, and offers us her take on the evening! ~~~~~ I don’t know about you, but when I was small all I wanted to be was a dancer. A ballerina to be specific. I didn’t quite realise that dream but I still adore being swept up in the frou-frou and the fantasy that is ballet. Last night I was lucky enough to attend the official opening of iconic Australian Designer Collette Dinnigan’s… Read More →

Choosing your photographer

Sorrento Weddings: Choosing your photographer

Rather than creating a big ‘to do’ list that can be quite overwhleming, we recommend breaking things down into the areas that are top priorities: the invitations and stationery, the cake, your ceremony & reception, your dress & your ‘maids dress, flowers and of course, the photography. Your big day will live with you for the rest of your married life, so why not make sure the images reflect your happy day? Finding the right photographer is paramount, and can be a stressful task! We spoke to the very talented Shannon Pawsey, owner of Sorrento Wedding Photography, whom has been featured a number of times on Something Borrowed. Shannon has some great tips on choosing a photographer and gives us… Read More →
